Floods in Myanmar/South Asia
Floods caused by heavy rainfalls affect over one million people in Myanmar
Due to heavy rainfalls at the end of July wide areas of southern Asia, especially in Myanmar, were flooded. In some regions the water is still at knee level.
The members of Aktion Deutschland Hilft are active in Myanmar and southern Asia.
Above the actual need for emergency aid a longtime humanitarian catastrophe is becoming apparent: more than one million hectare of farmland have been flooded or destroyed. Therefore the sowing usually scheduled for September can’t take place resulting in a delayed or even cancelled crop. This may result in an insufficient food supply of Myanmar’s population.
