Three weeks after the beginning of the flood disaster relief operation many houses and fields in the region are still under water.

Humanitarian Emergency Aid for Victims of the Hundred Year Flood in Bosnia and Herzegovina by DEMIRA e.V. - Update

Even though the water level in the flooded areas is dropping and it is expected to have access to all farms and houses during the next week, the situation remains tense.

Since most of the roads are passable again, bit by bit the whole picture of the extent of the damage caused by the floods is emerging. Some residents were able to start with the first cleanup; however, many of them have to throw their full furniture into the garbage. Many houses are soiled with mud, which has also mixed with oil and hazardous chemicals. In addition, many animals drowned in the fields and are now representing a major risk of contamination.

DEMIRA e.V. supports the affected local population with drugs, clothing and transportation. In addition, we're conducting risk awareness campaigns and clearing activities in relation with mines washed out by the floods. We are also replacing the markings and barriers swept off from still existing mine fields.

But DEMIRA e.V. has to complain severe damage itself; our clearing machines are still under water and no one knows, how severe they were damaged. The kennels are still flooded too; after the water has dropped, extensive disinfection and maintenance will be necessary.

Please continue to help us, so that we can assist the flood affected people in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Thank you for any kind of support.
