Earthquake in Nepal
In April and May 2015 Nepal was hit by a series of devastating earthquakes with a magnitude up to 7.8 on the Richter scale. According to the Nepalese government over 8,000 people were killed and more than 22,300 were injured. Furthermore large parts of the infrastructure were destroyed as well as many of the countries cultural treasures.
DEMIRA in Nepal
To help the people in need, DEMIRA deployed a mobile team of doctors, which provides medical treatment to the remote villages in the Himalayas and transports injured people to the nearest hospitals if necessary. Furthermore, we support the resident doctors and nurses in the medical institutions, particularly through training and further education. Our aim is also to improve the level of medical care in Nepal permanently.
