Mechanical Demining

In addition to dogs, the mid-90s also brought the development and use of mechanical demining machines. Today, demining machines are an integral part of the so-called demining toolbox approach.

Machines are used for two different purposes. Some prepare the ground prior to the clearing process while other machines can detonate mines and reduce the risk for deminers before the manual mine clearance is initiated.

Mechanical demining machines for ground preparation safely chop the vegetation on mined areas and make the ground more accessible. They are used to clear the area of debris and garbage too. Some of these are even capable of breaking the surface into pieces in order to facilitate the excavation process.
